My Mother's Day Message

Like many of you, Mother’s Day is a very special day for me. It’s a time to reflect on my relationship with my own mother and my role as a mum to my beautiful daughter, Rose Grace.

As a mother, I wish to be a great role model for my daughter; I believe most mothers aspire to this. At the tender age of three, Rose is a sponge, soaking up everything I do. She mirrors back my actions and often my attitude through both her positive and negative behaviour. She has become somewhat of a reflection of myself and taught me much about myself.

On a self-exploration journey to be my best self, who would have thought a three-year-old would help me obtain my goal in being a great role model, not only to Rose, but for women in general as a Life Coach?

Without judging women and what it means to be a great role model, some of you may recall fond memories spending time with your mum while others' experiences have been less than memorable.

Being a mother has been one of the hardest yet most rewarding experiences of my life. With the demands of running my own business, maintaining friendships, navigating fruitful and failed relationships, motherhood is no easy task or feat!

Everyday I feel as mothers’ we are judged by others on how we parent. Sadly, it's often from onlookers, people we don't know personally, as I recently experienced at a local shopping centre. The ones who always feel the need to comment when the world of your little person has fallen apart in a screaming mess over something incredibly trivial while you try to manage the shopping, an important work related call or a simple conversation.

It seems everyone has an expert solution! I think most mothers have experienced something like this at some point in their motherhood and carried the guilt and felt the dent in self-confidence left from the comments of these well-meaning bystanders.

But who’s perfect?

No one... we all make mistakes!

It’s how we rise from falling and get back up time and time again, learning from our mistakes, that we become the best role models we can possibly be.

I wanted to take this time to let you know, if no one has told you recently or your role as a mother has been taken for granted, that you are doing an exceptional job. There is no such thing as the perfect mum.

I think we should strive for being the perfectly, imperfect mum! Hey, it would certainly help ease the pressure from the expectations of today’s society.

This Mother’s Day, put down your mobile phone, enjoy the time spent in the moment with your mother or your children or both. Instead of beating yourself up as a mother with the 'should have' and 'could have', take this time to reflect on all the positive traits you have learnt from your own mother and how this has impacted your life?

What do you mirror from your mother? The good and the bad?

Perhaps you’ve taken on a few traits that might be both positive and negative?

How can you break the mothering trends, contribute to the evolution of mothering within your family history to show compassion and forgiveness and turn the negatives into positives?

Something to think about…….
Happy Mother’s Day, beautiful people!

With love, Amy
